Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong

Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong Cover

Intro

Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong is the latest new comic crossover between DC Comics and Legendary Comics crossing over the Titans and Super Heroes for an epic battle of Titanic proportions. The story starts from the world of Justice League where everything is going fine and dandy, Justice League doing their thing and most of the villains are locked up in prison. It is going ‘super’ well and thus thinking the timing is right, Superman decides to take a vacation and spend some quality time with his beloved, Lois Lane. All was going well until Godzilla rose up menacingly, from the Metropolis Bay, looking gigantic than ever and starts a fight with Superman.

That is how the story starts and I must say that I am not a fan of either DC or Marvel comics but the only reason I picked this up is because of the Monsterverse, Godzilla and Kong and how can I not. I have read and collected almost everything to do with Monsterverse and it is one of my favorite shared universe film series of all time. I have some preliminary knowledge of DC Heroes and all but not a ‘super’ fan per say.

One thing for sure, Godzilla is officially in 2 of the biggest comic worlds, Marvel and DC. I will release a blog about Godzilla in Marvel comics when the omnibus releases but let’s get back on track. I will write out some thoughts of this comic, no spoilers and my recommendation. Let’s get on it.

My Thoughts

Now, the comic was released in issues like most comics do but I have waited until now to get the Hardcover version and I must say that comic did not disappoint. If you are looking for some hero on monster action, this comic has a lot of it.

The art is also very consistent but there are some problems in proportions of the monsters because of the weird angles but it is to be expected because there are not many monster artists out there and they take a lot of time to draw. Some cover designs are seriously amazing and seeing a comic in color was a refreshing experience because I have been adjusted to reading Manga in black & white.

The story is not too convoluted and not too simple either but very much depends on you. I like complicated and mystery style of storytelling and so it gels quite well with the Monsterverse. One peeve I have with this is that dialogues are very different and they do not sound like real people talking especially the villains.

The villains are always speaking in such a weird way its like they do not talk with real people but I guess that is thing, it is a comic book after all. To me, the highlights were the action and there was so much action, I loved it. Godzilla Vs. Superman fight was amazing and they even pulled out some inspiration from Pacific Rim. They were also a lot of heroes, I mean like a lot of heroes making appearances, some had more page time than others but it was nice.

On to the monster side of things, I can clearly say who are in the comics but I will not spoil what they do in the comic. Here is the Titan and Superspecies List below from the Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong:

Titans:

  • Godzilla
  • Kong
  • Camazotz
  • Behemoth
  • Scylla
  • Tiamat
  • Mechagodzilla
  • Mega Skull Crawler

Superspecies:

  • Skull Crawlers
  • Warbat
  • Skull Island Rhinoceros

It was amazing to see all the Titans in 1 book. As for the Mega Skull Crawler, it is still not official if it is a Titan or not but thinking about the size and strength and destruction capability, I do think it should be a Titan.

As for if it is cannon to Monsterverse or DC, nothing concrete has been said by Legendary or DC because there are some inconsistencies. I can also not say anything from DC’s side of things because I am not even sure which versions of the characters are they. Notable inconsistency to me is that Kong’s Skull Island is not destroyed but intact. Skull Island was supposed to be destroyed by King Ghidorah’s storm from the Godzilla Vs. Kong film but it isn’t.

How do I know it is around the time of Godzilla Vs. Kong, because the Legion of Doom finds the Mechagodzilla core to build it in DC world and this would mean this story happens after the GvK film because how else would they know the schematics on how to build Mechagodzilla straight up like the Monsterverse version but then the question comes, how is the core Mechagodzilla still not destroyed after the fight in the film.

Beats me!! If this story takes place before the film, then somehow, Kong has the Battle Axe from the GvK film and I highly doubt Kong could imagine a weapon like that before he actually found the axe in the Hollow Earth. There are a lot of continuity errors and one can say that this is just DC’s version of Monsterverse in their multiverse and not the actual Monsterverse we know and love. But if you can overlook these inconsistencies, then it is a super fun read!!

Recommendation:

I highly recommend anyone who enjoys the chaos and destruction of Monster and Superhero fights with quite a decent premise, a huge cast of characters and so much more. I really appreciated that the art actually looked good and the action translated well in the pages. I would rate this an 8.5 out of 10.

I would prefer a little less comic book-y dialogues and a bit more serious like how Batman does, well then again, there would not be any variety and I wanted a lot more monsters, maybe an original Titan, unlike Mega Skull Crawler, but it was a good roster of Titans. And finally, I wanted it to be a little longer, I think this want is valid. Now, go get the book by clicking the button. See you again next time for many more blogs.
